Follow these steps for safe and effective installation.

  1. Choose Location: Select a spot with direct sunlight for at least 6-8 hours per day, within 10ft of your Blink Doorbell.
  2. Mount Bracket: Use included screws/anchors to secure the adjustable bracket to wall, siding, or eaves. Ensure it is firm.
  3. Attach Panel: Snap the solar panel onto the bracket. Adjust the angle to face the sun (typically 30-45 degrees).
  4. Connect Cable: Route the USB cable from the panel to your Blink Doorbell using the cable clips to secure it neatly.
  5. Plug In: Connect the Micro-USB end to your Blink Doorbell's charging port. The doorbell will recognize external power.
  6. Verify: Check the LED indicator on the solar panel. A green light confirms it is charging the doorbell.

WARNING! Do not install near heat sources, sharp edges, or areas prone to heavy impact. Ensure all connections are weather-sealed.

Specifications

Positioning & Alignment

Optimal sun exposure is critical for performance.

Best Practices: Face the panel true south (Northern Hemisphere) or true north (Southern Hemisphere). Tilt angle should roughly equal your latitude. Avoid shading from trees, roof overhangs, or other obstructions.

Seasonal Adjustment: In winter, increase the tilt angle to capture lower sun. In summer, decrease the angle. The adjustable bracket allows for easy changes.

Check: Monitor the Blink app's battery level. A stable or increasing percentage indicates good alignment.

Charging & Performance

The solar panel provides trickle charging to maintain your doorbell's battery.

  1. Initial Charge: After installation, allow 24-48 hours of direct sunlight for the battery to reach optimal charge.
  2. Normal Operation: Under average sunlight (6-8 hrs/day), the panel should fully sustain the doorbell's power needs, eliminating battery swaps.
  3. LED Indicator: Solid Green = Charging normally. Flashing Red/Green = Connection issue. No Light = Insufficient sun or faulty connection.
  4. Blink App: The app will show "External Power" as the power source. Battery percentage may fluctuate but should remain above 70% with proper sun.
  5. Low Light Conditions: During extended cloudy/rainy periods, the doorbell will use its internal battery as backup. Performance may vary.

Tip: For best results, clean the panel surface monthly to remove dust and debris.

Maintenance & Care

Regular maintenance ensures long-term efficiency.

  1. Cleaning: Wipe the glass surface with a soft, damp cloth every 1-2 months. Use mild soap if needed. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  2. Inspection: Periodically check the mounting hardware, cable, and connections for wear, damage, or loosening.
  3. Winter Care: Snow accumulation will block sunlight. Gently brush snow off. Do not use sharp tools or hot water.
  4. Cable Check: Ensure the USB connection at the doorbell is secure and the port cover (if applicable) is closed to maintain weather resistance.

CAUTION! Do not disassemble the solar panel. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
