Tools Required

Gather the following tools before starting. Some are provided in the hardware kit.

Site Preparation & Safety

Choosing and preparing the correct site is critical for stability and safety.

  1. Select Location: Choose a firm, level surface (concrete, pavers, compacted soil). Ensure minimum clearance of 10 feet from structures, trees, and overhead wires.
  2. Check Underground Utilities: Call 811 (USA) before digging to mark any underground lines.
  3. Clear Area: Remove all debris, rocks, or obstacles from the installation zone.
  4. Plan for Base: Decide on anchoring method: Permanent Concrete Footing (recommended) or Temporary Weighted Base (provided weights or aftermarket).

WARNING! This structure is heavy. Use at least two people for assembly and lifting. Wear safety glasses and gloves. Do not assemble in high winds or inclement weather.

Base Assembly & Anchoring

Secure the mast base first. This is the most critical step for overall stability.

  1. Assemble Base Plate: Attach the provided base plate to the bottom of the main mast section using the specified bolts. Do not fully tighten until final alignment.
  2. Position Mast: With assistance, hold the mast assembly upright in the exact desired location.
  3. Permanent Anchoring (Recommended):
    • Dig holes for concrete footings as per local code (typically 18" deep x 12" wide).
    • Place the base plate into the hole, use a level to ensure the mast is perfectly plumb in all directions.
    • Pour concrete around the base plate. Allow concrete to cure fully (minimum 48-72 hours) before proceeding.
  4. Temporary Anchoring: If using weighted bases, fill them as instructed and secure the mast base to them. Ensure weights are sufficient for your wind region.

CAUTION! An improperly anchored base can cause the cabana to tip over, resulting in injury or damage. Always ensure the mast is perfectly vertical.

Main Frame Assembly

Assemble the cantilever arm and rib structure on the ground before attaching to the mast.

  1. Lay Out Frame: On a soft surface (grass, blanket), lay the cantilever arm flat.
  2. Attach Ribs: Connect the rib assemblies to the pivot points on the cantilever arm using the provided pivot bolts. Hand-tighten only.
  3. Attach to Mast: With assistance, lift the entire arm/rib assembly and connect it to the mounting bracket on the mast. This is a two-person lift. Insert the main pivot bolt and hand-tighten.
  4. Install Crank Mechanism: Attach the tilt crank to the designated gearbox on the mast. Ensure it engages properly.
  5. Initial Tightening: Once the frame is hanging from the mast and all parts are aligned, begin tightening all bolts and set screws. Do not overtighten.

Canopy Installation

Installing the fabric canopy requires care to avoid tearing.

  1. Unfold Canopy: Lay the canopy fabric flat on a clean surface, right side up. Identify the front (usually marked).
  2. Position Frame: Lower the cantilever arm so the ribs are close to the ground and accessible.
  3. Attach Front: Starting at the front center of the canopy, attach the grommet to the corresponding hook or slot on the front rib. Work symmetrically outward to each side.
  4. Attach Sides & Rear: Gradually work along the sides and to the rear, attaching each grommet to its respective rib point. The fabric should be taut but not stretched.
  5. Final Attachment: Secure all remaining grommets. Ensure the canopy is centered and smooth with no major wrinkles.

Tip: Perform this step on a calm day. Do not force the fabric; if it doesn't align easily, reposition the frame or check grommet order.

Final Adjustments & Operation

Complete assembly and test all functions.

  1. Raise the Arm: Use the crank handle to slowly raise the cantilever arm to its desired height. The motion should be smooth.
  2. Check Clearance & Level: Ensure the canopy is level and has adequate clearance from the ground and surrounding objects in all tilt positions.
  3. Tighten All Hardware: Go back and perform a final torque check on all bolts, especially pivot points and base connections.
  4. Test Tilt Function: Use the crank to adjust the tilt angle of the canopy. It should move freely and lock securely at various positions.
  5. Final Inspection: Walk around the entire structure. Look for loose parts, fabric stress points, or any misalignment.

Operation: To adjust shade, simply turn the crank clockwise to lower/increase tilt, counter-clockwise to raise/decrease tilt. Never force the crank.

Care, Maintenance & Storage

Proper care extends the life of your SOLANOX CABANA.

CAUTION! Do not use abrasive cleaners, bleach, or pressure washers on the canopy or frame. Always lower the canopy during high winds or heavy snow to prevent damage.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
Canopy sags or is looseGrommets not fully attached; fabric not tensioned evenlyRe-attach canopy starting from front center, working outward evenly. Ensure all grommets are secure.
Frame wobbles or feels unstableBase not secure; hardware loose; ground not levelCheck and tighten all base and frame bolts. Ensure mast is plumb. Verify anchoring is adequate for site conditions.
Crank is hard to turn or jammedMechanism misaligned; lack of lubrication; debris in gearsDo not force. Lower canopy weight by supporting arm. Check for obstruction. Lubricate pivot points.
Canopy does not tilt evenlyRibs misaligned; pivot bolts too tight/looseLoosen rib pivot bolts, adjust ribs for even spacing, then re-tighten symmetrically.
Water pools on canopyCanopy not taut; tilt angle too flatRe-tension canopy fabric. Increase the tilt angle to encourage water runoff.
Rattling noise in windLoose hardware; fabric not securedPerform a complete bolt check. Ensure all canopy grommets are fastened.

Safety First: If a major structural issue is suspected, lower the canopy to its safest position and contact Tuuci support immediately. Do not use a damaged product.
