Installation & Mounting

Unpack and inspect all components. Choose a mounting location with a clear view of the sky.

  1. Mount the Antenna Unit: Secure the SAU bracket to a stable, vibration-free surface using provided hardware. Ensure the mounting surface is level.
  2. Connect Cables: Route the interface cable from the SAU to the Terminal Unit. Connect the handset to the TU.
  3. Connect Power: Attach the power cable from the Terminal Unit to a suitable 10.5-32 VDC source (e.g., vessel battery). Observe correct polarity.
  4. Final Check: Ensure all connections are secure, weatherproof, and cables are not pinched.

WARNING! The antenna must have an unobstructed 360-degree view of the sky for initial acquisition. Do not mount near magnetic compasses or other sensitive equipment.

First-Time Setup

Power on the terminal; the system will perform self-tests and attempt satellite acquisition.

  1. Initial Acquisition: After power-on, the terminal will automatically search for and acquire the satellite network. This may take several minutes. Do not interrupt power.
  2. Set System Language: Press MENU, navigate to SYSTEM SETTINGS > LANGUAGE, and select your preference (default is ENGLISH).
  3. Register with Network: Follow on-screen prompts to register the terminal with your service provider. You may need your SIM card or account details.
  4. Test Call: Make a brief test call to verify functionality (e.g., to a shore-based number).

CAUTION! Ensure the terminal is powered from a stable DC source. Voltage spikes or drops can disrupt operation.

Specifications

Controls and Interface

Primary control is via the Terminal Unit's keypad and display. Front Panel: POWER, MENU, numeric keypad, arrow keys, ENTER, and BACK.

Display Icons: Signal strength, network registration, GPS fix, call in progress, message waiting, battery/power status.

Menu Structure: SYSTEM (language, time, diagnostics), CALLS (call log, redial), MESSAGES (SMS, email setup), SETUP (network selection, data profiles). Status Screen: Shows primary information like signal level, position, and network name.

Connecting Peripherals

Handset: Plug directly into the TEL port on the TU. Data Device: Connect a fax machine or PC via the DATA port (RS-232) using a null-modem cable. Ethernet: If equipped, connect a LAN device via the RJ-45 port.

  1. Ensure the terminal is powered OFF before connecting peripherals.
  2. Use only recommended or supplied cables.
  3. For data connections, configure the connected device's COM port settings (baud rate, parity) to match the terminal's data profile (default often 9600, 8, N, 1).

Tip: For permanent installations, secure all cables with cable ties and use drip loops to prevent water ingress.

Making a Call

Supports voice, fax, and data calls.

  1. Acquire Signal: Ensure the display shows "Ready" or a strong signal icon.
  2. Dial: Lift the handset or press the speaker key. Using the keypad, dial the full international number (e.g., +[Country Code][Area Code][Number]).
  3. Initiate Call: Press the green CALL/SEND button or wait for auto-dial if enabled.
  4. During Call: Use VOLUME keys to adjust earpiece level. Press MUTE to disable microphone.
  5. End Call: Press the red END button or replace the handset.
  6. Data/Fax Call: Initiate from the connected device (e.g., send from fax machine). The terminal must be in the correct data mode (configured in SETUP menu).

WARNING! Satellite call charges apply from the moment the connection is established until it is terminated. Be aware of your service plan.

Safety & Emergency Features

Distress Alerting: Supports initiation of a distress alert via dedicated software or menu option (requires pre-configuration and subscription). Position Reporting: Integrated GPS provides location data for all calls and can be sent automatically. Call Priority: Ability to set call priority levels.

Care & Maintenance

Power down before cleaning. Wipe the Antenna Unit radome with a soft, damp cloth. Keep vents on the Terminal Unit clear of obstructions.

CAUTION! Do not use solvents, abrasives, or high-pressure water on any part of the terminal. Inspect cables and connectors regularly for corrosion or damage.
