Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Select suitable outdoor location.

  1. Mount unit: Use provided bracket to mount on pole or flat surface.
  2. Position sensors: Ensure solar sensor faces true south (northern hemisphere) with no shading.
  3. Connect solar panel: Attach cable to charging port on main unit.
  4. Install batteries: Insert backup batteries in compartment.
  5. Secure enclosure: Ensure all seals are tight for weatherproofing.

WARNING! Install at least 2 meters above ground. Avoid locations with partial shading or reflective surfaces.

First-Time Setup

Power on system; follow display prompts.

  1. Initialize system: Press and hold POWER button for 5 seconds.
  2. Set parameters: Use MENU button to set units, time/date, logging interval.
  3. Configure wireless: If equipped, pair with base station or cellular network.
  4. Calibrate sensors: Perform initial calibration per on-screen instructions.
  5. Test alarms: Set temporary thresholds to verify alarm functionality.

CAUTION! Perform setup in controlled environment before final installation.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Access menu via front panel buttons. Front Panel: POWER, MENU, UP/DOWN arrows, ENTER, BACK.

Display Screens: Real-time data, Historical graphs, System status, Alarm status.

Settings Menu: Measurement units (metric/imperial), Time/date format, Logging interval (1-60 minutes), Alarm thresholds (high/low for radiation and temperature), Communication settings (baud rate, parity), Calibration offsets, System reset.

Connecting Devices

Data retrieval: USB cable to computer. External sensors: Optional expansion ports. Wireless: Pair with base station or cellular network.

  1. Turn off system before connecting cables.
  2. Use provided USB cable for direct computer connection.
  3. For wireless setup, ensure compatible receiver is within range (up to 500m line-of-sight).
  4. Configure communication parameters in menu before attempting connection.

Tip: Keep USB port cover sealed when not in use to maintain weatherproofing.

Data Logging & Retrieval

Continuous logging of solar radiation and temperature data.

  1. View real-time data: Main display shows current readings.
  2. Access historical data: Use MENU > Data Log to view stored measurements.
  3. Retrieve data: Connect via USB and use R-TEC software to download.
  4. Wireless retrieval: Configure automatic upload to cloud server.
  5. Export formats: CSV, XML, or proprietary .rtd format.
  6. Clear memory: Menu option to erase logged data (requires confirmation).
  7. SD card expansion: Insert card for extended storage (up to 2 years).

WARNING! Do not remove battery during data retrieval to avoid corruption.

Alarm Configuration

Configurable thresholds for radiation and temperature monitoring.

  1. Access alarm menu: MENU > Alarms > Configure.
  2. Set radiation alarms: High and low thresholds (W/m²).
  3. Set temperature alarms: High and low thresholds (°C/°F).
  4. Configure responses: Visual alert, audible beep, relay output, SMS/email notification.
  5. Test alarms: Use test function to verify operation.
  6. Alarm history: View past triggered alarms in log.

Default thresholds: Radiation: High=1200 W/m², Low=50 W/m²; Temperature: High=50°C, Low=0°C.

Care & Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures accurate measurements and long service life.

  1. Monthly: Clean solar sensor dome with soft cloth and distilled water.
  2. Quarterly: Check battery charge level and connections.
  3. Biannually: Verify sensor calibration against reference.
  4. Annually: Inspect enclosure seals and mounting hardware.
  5. As needed: Replace backup battery (typically every 2-3 years).

CAUTION! Never use abrasive cleaners on sensor surfaces. Disconnect power before servicing.
