Installation

Unpack and inspect all components. Ensure installation site has adequate structural support and solar exposure.

  1. Mount Collector: Secure adjustable frame to roof or ground mount facing true south (Northern Hemisphere).
  2. Install Storage Tank: Place tank in a protected, indoor location close to existing water heater.
  3. Connect Piping: Use insulated copper pipes for collector loop and standard plumbing for water connections.
  4. Electrical Connections: Connect control panel to power supply and pump; install backup heater circuit.
  5. Fill System: Fill collector loop with propylene glycol heat transfer fluid; fill tank with water.

WARNING! Installation must be performed by a qualified professional. Roof work involves fall hazards. Ensure all electrical connections comply with local codes.

First-Time Setup

After installation, power on the system and configure the digital controller.

  1. Power On: Switch on main power and controller. The display will show current temperatures.
  2. Set Language: In SETUP menu, select ENGLISH (default).
  3. Set Time & Date: Configure local time for accurate operation logging.
  4. Configure Temperatures: Set desired tank temperature (recommended 50-60°C / 122-140°F).
  5. Enable Frost Protection: Ensure frost protection is ON (default).
  6. Test Backup Heater: Manually activate backup heater to verify operation.

CAUTION! Do not set tank temperature above 70°C (158°F) to prevent scalding and reduce scaling.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Access all functions via the Digital Control Panel. Front Panel: POWER button, LCD display, MENU, UP/DOWN arrows, ENTER.

Display Shows: Collector temperature, Tank temperature, Pump status, Heater status, Error codes.

Menu Structure: SETUP (Language, Time, Date), TEMPERATURE (Setpoint, Differential), SYSTEM (Frost Protection, Overheat Limit, Pump Speed), MANUAL (Manual Pump/Heater override), DIAGNOSTICS (Error history, System test).

Connecting to Water System

Connect the solar tank to your home's cold water supply and hot water distribution.

  1. Turn off main water supply and drain existing water heater if replacing.
  2. Connect cold water inlet to tank's cold port (marked blue).
  3. Connect hot water outlet to tank's hot port (marked red) and to home's hot water pipes.
  4. Install isolation valves on both lines for maintenance.
  5. Connect temperature/pressure relief valve discharge pipe to a safe drain.

Tip: Use dielectric unions if connecting copper to dissimilar metals to prevent corrosion.

Controller Operation

The system operates automatically. The controller compares collector and tank temperatures.

  1. Automatic Mode: Pump runs when collector is 8°C (15°F) hotter than tank. Stops when difference is less than 3°C (5°F).
  2. Backup Heater: Activates if tank temperature falls below setpoint for more than 2 hours (configurable).
  3. Frost Protection: Pump runs briefly if collector temperature nears freezing point.
  4. Overheat Protection: Pump stops if tank exceeds 85°C (185°F).
  5. Manual Override: Use MANUAL menu to force pump or heater on for testing.

WARNING! Do not disable safety protections. Monitor system performance regularly.

Maintenance & Winterization

Annual maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

Care & Cleaning

Keep control panel dry. Clean with a dry, soft cloth. Collector tubes can be rinsed with water to remove dust and debris. Do not use abrasive cleaners or high-pressure water on tubes.

CAUTION! Never spray water or cleaners on electrical components, connectors, or the control panel.
