Ipema Superior playgrounds 321-P6 Series Installation Manuallines
The Ipema Superior 321-P6 Series represents a premium line of commercial-grade playground equipment designed for durability, safety, and engaging play. This installation manual provides comprehensive guidelines for the proper assembly, anchoring, and inspection of the 321-P6 Series structures, including modular play panels, climbing features, slides, and safety surfacing integration. Adherence to these instructions is critical for ensuring user safety and compliance with international playground safety standards (e.g., ASTM F1487, EN 1176).
Safety Warnings & Precautions
Critical safety information for installers and site supervisors.
| Warning | Description |
| Professional Installation | Installation must be performed by qualified personnel familiar with playground equipment assembly. |
| Site Safety Zone | Establish a clear safety perimeter during installation to prevent public access to the work area. |
| Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) | Wear safety glasses, gloves, and sturdy footwear at all times. |
| Lifting Procedures | Use mechanical aids or multiple personnel for lifting heavy components to prevent injury. |
| Weather Conditions | Do not assemble during high winds, rain, or lightning storms. |
| Tool Safety | Use tools only for their intended purpose and ensure they are in good working condition. |
| Fall Protection | Utilize appropriate fall arrest systems when working at heights above 1.8 meters (6 feet). |
| Component Integrity | Do not force-fit components. If a part does not align correctly, check for damage or incorrect part. |
Pre-Installation Planning
Essential steps before beginning assembly.
- Review Documentation: Thoroughly read this entire manual and all included diagrams.
- Site Assessment: Verify the installation site is level, free of underground utilities, and provides adequate use zones as per safety standards.
- Layout Staking: Use stakes and string to mark the exact footprint of the playground structure according to the provided layout plan.
- Access & Storage: Ensure clear access for delivery vehicles and a secure, dry area for storing components until assembly.
IMPORTANT! Failure to properly plan the site layout can result in non-compliance with safety use zones, creating a hazard.
Tools & Materials Required
- Provided in Kit: All structural components, fasteners (bolts, nuts, washers), anchors, and hardware.
- Required Tools (Not Provided):
- Socket wrench set (metric)
- Adjustable wrenches
- Rubber mallet
- Torque wrench (calibrated)
- Spirit level (minimum 1 meter)
- Post hole digger or auger (for anchoring)
- Tape measure (30m)
- Safety cones/barrier tape
- Safety Surfacing Materials: IPEMA-certified loose-fill (e.g., engineered wood fiber) or unitary surfacing (e.g., rubber tiles/pour-in-place), as specified for the project.
Component Inventory & Inspection
Unpack and verify all components against the packing list.
- Lay out all parts in a clean, organized area.
- Cross-reference each part number with the inventory sheet.
- Inspect every component for shipping damage (cracks, bends, severe scratches).
- Report any missing or damaged parts to Ipema Superior immediately. Do not proceed with installation.
NOTE: Keep all packaging until installation is complete and verified in case parts need to be returned.
Foundation & Site Preparation
Preparing a stable base is crucial for long-term stability.
- Excavation: Excavate the marked area to the depth specified for your chosen safety surfacing and anchoring system.
- Compaction: Compact the sub-base to ensure it is firm and level.
- Drainage: Ensure the site has proper drainage to prevent water pooling under the structure.
- Anchor Point Marking: Precisely mark the locations for post footings or surface anchors as per the engineering drawings.
CAUTION! An unstable or improperly drained foundation can lead to equipment tipping or premature corrosion.
Step-by-Step Assembly
General assembly sequence for the 321-P6 modular system.
- Assemble Primary Posts & Beams: Connect vertical posts to horizontal beams using the provided pivot bolts. Hand-tighten only at this stage.
- Erect Main Structure Frame: With assistance, lift the main frame into position on the prepared site.
- Install Play Panels & Features: Attach activity panels, climbing walls, and bridge elements to the frame according to the numbered diagrams.
- Attach Slides & Overhead Components: Secure slides, monkey bars, and any overhead components. Ensure all connection points are accessible for final tightening.
- Final Torquing: Using a calibrated torque wrench, tighten all fasteners to the specified torque values listed in the appendix.
WARNING! Do not allow public use of the structure until all fasteners have been torqued to specification and a final inspection is complete.
Anchoring & Stability
Securing the structure to the ground.
Choose the appropriate anchoring method based on your surfacing and subsoil conditions:
- Concrete Footings: For permanent installations. Set posts in concrete to depth specified in engineering drawings.
- Surface-Mount Anchors: For use with concrete slabs. Drill holes, insert expansion anchors, and bolt the structure's base plates securely.
- Earth Auger Anchors: For soil installations. Screw anchors into the ground at designated points and attach to the structure with provided hardware.
Verification: After anchoring, attempt to rock the main structure. There should be no discernible movement at the base.
Safety Surfacing Installation
Installing the critical fall protection surface.
- Border Installation: Install a secure, permanent border around the entire use zone.
- Loose-Fill Surfacing: Pour IPEMA-certified engineered wood fiber or rubber mulch to the minimum depth required for the structure's critical fall height (refer to chart in manual). Rake level and compact lightly.
- Unitary Surfacing: For tiles or pour-in-place rubber, follow the manufacturer's specific installation instructions to ensure a seamless, impact-absorbing surface.
- Depth Check: Use a depth probe to verify the surfacing depth meets standards at all points, especially under swings and slide exits.
CRITICAL: Inadequate safety surfacing is a leading cause of playground injuries. Depth must be maintained regularly.
Final Inspection & Testing
Comprehensive checklist before opening to the public.
| Inspection Item | Acceptance Criteria |
| Structural Integrity | No cracks, bends, or visible damage to any component. |
| Fastener Security | All bolts/nuts are present and tightened to specified torque. No sharp protrusions. |
| Anchorage | Structure is immobile when tested for rocking. |
| Pinch & Crush Points | All moving parts (swing hangers, bearings) have adequate clearance (>9mm or <25mm gap rule). |
| Entanglement Hazards | No loose ropes, cables, or open "S" hooks. |
| Surfacing Depth & Condition | Meets minimum depth requirements and is free of debris and compaction. |
| Use Zone Clearance | Adequate clear space around each piece of equipment as per layout plan. |
Sign-Off: The installing supervisor must complete and sign the included Installation Certification Form.
Maintenance Guidelines
Routine maintenance ensures ongoing safety and longevity.
- Daily/Weekly: Visual inspection for vandalism, loose litter, and surfacing displacement.
- Monthly: Check and tighten fasteners; inspect for wear on moving parts, rust, or wood splintering; top up loose-fill surfacing.
- Annual: Professional inspection by a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI). Conduct a full torque check on all fasteners.
- Record Keeping: Maintain a log of all inspections and maintenance activities.
CAUTION! Replace worn or damaged components immediately with genuine Ipema Superior parts only.
