Unpacking and Inspection

Unpack and inspect all contents. Ensure no damage during shipping.

  1. Remove NOMAD 400 panel from packaging.
  2. Check for physical damage to solar cells, frame, or ports.
  3. Verify included accessories: user manual, warranty card.
  4. Unfold panel and inspect hinge and kickstand mechanism.

WARNING! Do not use if panel is cracked or damaged. Contact support immediately.

Setup and Positioning

For optimal charging, position panel correctly.

  1. Choose location: Place in direct sunlight, free from shadows.
  2. Unfold panel: Lay flat or use kickstand to angle towards sun.
  3. Adjust angle: Use kickstand to tilt panel (approx. latitude angle for best year-round performance).
  4. Connect device: Use appropriate cable to connect device to one of the output ports.
  5. Check indicator: LED should glow green when generating power.

CAUTION! Avoid placing near reflective surfaces that may cause hotspots. Do not leave connected devices unattended in extreme heat.

Specifications

Controls and Connections

Panel has no physical power button. Power flow is automatic when sun hits the panel and a device is connected.

Ports: USB-A (black), USB-C (blue), 8mm barrel port (yellow).

LED Indicator: Solid green = generating power and charging. Flashing green = low power (cloudy/angled poorly). Solid red = fault (overcurrent, short circuit, or overheating). Off = no sun or no device connected.

Kickstand: Flip out to desired angle. Ensure it locks into place.

Charging Your Devices

Compatible with Goal Zero Yeti power stations and USB-powered devices.

  1. Connect to Goal Zero Yeti: Use 8mm barrel cable (sold separately) from panel's barrel port to Yeti's solar input.
  2. Connect USB devices: Use standard USB cable from panel's USB-A or USB-C port to your device.
  3. Verify connection: Device should indicate charging. LED on panel should be green.
  4. Maximize output: Ensure full sun exposure and proper angle.
  5. Disconnect: Unplug device when charged or when not in use.

Tip: Charging times vary based on sunlight intensity, device battery capacity, and cable quality.

Optimal Performance Tips

For best results, follow these guidelines:

  1. Sunlight: Direct, unobstructed sunlight is crucial. Output drops significantly in cloudy or shaded conditions.
  2. Angle: Adjust panel seasonally. Steeper angle in winter, shallower in summer.
  3. Cleanliness: Keep solar cells clean from dust, dirt, and snow.
  4. Temperature: Output is highest in cool, sunny conditions. Extreme heat can reduce efficiency.
  5. Cables: Use high-quality, short cables to minimize power loss.

WARNING! Do not attempt to charge devices that exceed the port's rated output. Refer to your device's manual.

Care & Storage

Unfold and clean panel periodically. Store properly when not in use.

  1. Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe solar cells. Do not use abrasive cleaners or high-pressure water.
  2. Drying: Ensure panel is completely dry before folding.
  3. Storage: Fold panel, secure with strap (if included). Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  4. Transport: Use carrying handle. Avoid dropping or placing heavy objects on panel.

CAUTION! Do not fold panel with cables attached. Do not store wet or in humid environments to prevent mold or corrosion.
