Installation

Unpack and inspect all contents. Choose a location with direct sunlight.

  1. Select Mounting Location: Ensure solar panel receives at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
  2. Assemble Post (if required): Follow post manufacturer instructions.
  3. Mount Lantern: Attach mounting bracket to post using provided hardware.
  4. Secure Lantern: Hang lantern on bracket and tighten security screw.
  5. Initial Charge: Before first use, leave in full sun for 12-24 hours with switch in OFF position.

WARNING! Install at a safe height. Ensure all connections are secure and weatherproof. Do not install near flammable materials.

First-Time Setup

After installation and initial charge, configure operation mode.

  1. Charge Battery: Ensure full initial charge as per Installation step 5.
  2. Set Control Switch: Choose desired mode (AUTO or TEST/MOTION).
  3. Adjust Motion Sensor (if applicable): Use sensitivity dial to set detection range (typically 10-26 feet).
  4. Test Operation: At dusk, verify light turns on automatically. Walk within sensor range to test motion-activated bright mode.

CAUTION! Handle with care during installation. The solar panel is fragile; avoid impact.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Primary control is the 3-position switch located inside the access panel.

Switch Positions:

Adjustments: Motion sensor sensitivity dial. Access by removing the lower cover.

Connecting to Mounting Post

Lantern is designed for post-top mounting.

  1. Ensure post is securely installed in ground or base.
  2. Slide the mounting bracket's U-bolt around the post.
  3. Place the flat washer and nut on the U-bolt and tighten securely.
  4. Hook the lantern's hanging loop onto the bracket's hook.
  5. Insert and tighten the security screw through the loop to prevent theft.

Tip: Ensure the solar panel faces true south (in Northern Hemisphere) for maximum sun exposure.

Operation Modes

Two primary automatic modes.

  1. Dusk-to-Dawn Mode (AUTO): Light activates at low brightness when photocell detects darkness. Runs until dawn or until battery is depleted.
  2. Motion-Sensing Mode (TEST/MOTION): Light stays in low-brightness "standby" mode. Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor monitors area. Upon detecting motion, light instantly brightens to 100% for approximately 30 seconds, then dims back to standby.
  3. Manual Override: Switch to OFF to disable light regardless of conditions. Battery will still charge.

WARNING! Do not cover the solar panel or photocell sensor. Keep sensor area clean for proper operation.

Maintenance & Battery Care

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

CAUTION! Do not open the battery compartment unless replacing the battery. Use only Gama Sonic recommended replacement parts.

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
Light does not turn on at nightBattery not charged, switch in OFF, obstructed solar panelEnsure 1-2 full sunny days of charging. Check switch position. Clean solar panel.
Light turns on but is very dimLow battery, poor sunlight exposureAllow extended charging. Relocate to sunnier spot if possible.
Motion sensor not workingSwitch not in TEST/MOTION, sensitivity too low, obstructed sensorSet switch correctly. Adjust sensitivity dial. Ensure sensor window is clean and unobstructed.
Light stays on all dayPhotocell obstructed or faultyClean photocell sensor (small clear dome). If problem persists, photocell may need service.
Reduced operation timeOld/degraded battery, seasonal low sunlightConsider battery replacement (after 2-3 years). Normal in winter; ensure panel is clear.
