Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully unpack the camera and inspect all contents.

  1. Remove the camera and accessories from the packaging.
  2. Verify contents: Flir PV48 camera, Lithium-ion battery, USB-C charging cable, Wrist strap, Quick Start Manual, Protective case.
  3. Inspect for any visible damage during shipping.
  4. Insert the battery into the compartment until it clicks into place.

WARNING! Handle the camera and lens with care. Do not touch the thermal sensor directly.

Initial Setup

Power on the camera and configure basic settings.

  1. Charge the battery: Connect the USB-C cable to the camera and a power source. The LED indicator will show charging status.
  2. Power on: Press and hold the Power button for 2 seconds.
  3. Set language: Follow the on-screen prompts to select your preferred language.
  4. Set date and time: Enter the current date and time for accurate image logging.
  5. Insert MicroSD card: Format the card using the camera's menu for first-time use.

CAUTION! Use only the provided or approved USB-C cable and charger.

Controls and Interface

Access functions via touchscreen and physical buttons. Front/Rear: Power button, Trigger, Laser button, LED button, Focus ring.

Touchscreen Interface: Home screen displays live thermal image, mode icons, and settings shortcuts. Swipe from edges to access menus.

Image Modes: Thermal, MSX®, Picture-in-Picture, Visible light. Measurement: Center spot, area boxes, isotherms. Settings: Emissivity, reflected temperature, color palettes (Ironbow, Gray, etc.), measurement units (°C/°F).

Basic Operation

Taking a thermal image: Point the camera at the target, adjust focus using the ring, and press the Trigger to capture.

  1. Power on the camera and allow a brief startup calibration.
  2. Select imaging mode via the touchscreen (Thermal, MSX®, etc.).
  3. Aim the camera at the target. Use the laser pointer if needed.
  4. Rotate the focus ring until the image is sharp.
  5. Press the Trigger halfway to enable measurement tools if configured.
  6. Press the Trigger fully to capture and save the image.
  7. Review images by swiping left on the home screen.

Tip: For accurate measurements, set the correct emissivity value for the material being inspected.

Capturing and Managing Images

Supports still images (.jpg) and radiometric data (.jpg + .csv).

  1. Capture: Press Trigger. Image saves to MicroSD card automatically.
  2. Review: Swipe left from home screen to enter gallery. Tap an image to view.
  3. Delete: In gallery, select an image and tap the trash icon.
  4. Mark/Annotate: Add voice notes or text annotations to images in review mode.
  5. Transfer: Connect via USB-C to a computer, or use Wi-Fi and the Flir Tools Mobile app.
  6. Radiometric Analysis: Open images in Flir Tools software on a PC for detailed temperature data.

WARNING! Do not remove the MicroSD card while the camera is powered on.

Connectivity and Software

Wi-Fi: Enable in settings to connect to Flir Tools Mobile app for live view and transfer. USB: Connect to PC for charging, mass storage, or use with Flir Tools software.

Flir Tools Mobile: Download from App Store or Google Play. Connect camera to smartphone via Wi-Fi for remote control and instant sharing.

Flir Tools (PC/Mac): Advanced analysis, reporting, and management of radiometric images. Available for download from www.flir.com.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug and power off before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth for the lens and body. For stubborn smudges, use a lens cleaning cloth with a small amount of lens cleaner.

CAUTION! Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or compressed air. Store in the protective case in a cool, dry place. Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity.

Troubleshooting
