Safety Precautions

Read all instructions before installation. Solar panels produce DC electricity when exposed to light.

  1. Electrical Safety: Cover panel surface with opaque material during wiring. Use insulated tools.
  2. Mechanical Safety: Panel is heavy and fragile. Use proper lifting techniques and at least two people.
  3. Installation Site: Ensure mounting structure is sturdy and can withstand wind/snow loads.
  4. Fire Safety: Do not install near flammable materials or gases.

WARNING! DC voltage can cause severe shock or burns. Disconnect all power sources before working on system.

Package Contents

Unpack and verify all components are present and undamaged.

CAUTION! Inspect panel for cracks or damage before installation. Do not install damaged panel.

Installation Planning

Proper planning ensures optimal performance and safety.

  1. Location: Select site with maximum sunlight exposure, free from shading (trees, buildings).
  2. Orientation: In Northern Hemisphere, face true south. In Southern Hemisphere, face true north.
  3. Tilt Angle: Optimal tilt equals local latitude for year-round performance. Adjust seasonally if possible.
  4. Spacing: Leave minimum 10cm (4in) between panels and mounting surface for airflow/cooling.
  5. Structure: Use corrosion-resistant mounting rails or frames rated for panel weight and local wind/snow loads.

Tip: Use a solar pathfinder or app to check for potential shading throughout the year.

Mounting the Solar Panel

Secure panel to mounting structure using provided brackets.

  1. Position Z-brackets on mounting rails according to panel hole spacing.
  2. Secure brackets to rails using appropriate hardware (not included).
  3. Lift panel carefully and align pre-drilled holes with bracket holes.
  4. Insert M8 bolts through panel frame and bracket. Hand-tighten nuts.
  5. Fully tighten all bolts using a torque wrench to 16-20 Nm (12-15 ft-lbs). Do not overtighten.
  6. Ensure panel is level and securely fastened. There should be no flex or movement.

WARNING! Do not drill additional holes in frame. Do not stand or place heavy objects on panel.

Electrical Connections

Connect panels in series or parallel to achieve desired system voltage/current.

  1. Series Connection: Connect MC4 male connector of one panel to MC4 female connector of next. Increases voltage.
  2. Parallel Connection: Use branch connectors (not included) to connect positive leads together and negative leads together. Increases current.
  3. Final Run to Charge Controller: Use UV-resistant PV cable (minimum 10 AWG for single panel) from panel string to charge controller.
  4. Polarity: Double-check positive (+) and negative (-) connections. Incorrect polarity can damage equipment.
  5. Grounding: Ground panel frame and mounting system per local electrical codes using approved grounding hardware.

CAUTION! Always connect charge controller to battery FIRST, then connect solar panels to controller.

System Commissioning

Verify system operation after installation.

  1. Ensure all connections are tight and weatherproof.
  2. Remove opaque cover from panel surface.
  3. Check charge controller display for incoming PV voltage and current.
  4. Verify battery is charging.
  5. Monitor system for first few days for expected performance.

Note: Output will vary based on sunlight intensity, angle, temperature, and system losses.

Maintenance & Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures long-term performance.

CAUTION! Do not use abrasive materials, harsh chemicals, or high-pressure water jets. Do not walk on panel.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
No output from panelShading, dirty surface, disconnected cables, faulty connectorCheck for shading/clean surface. Verify all MC4 connections are fully snapped. Check voltage at panel terminals with multimeter.
Low power outputPartial shading, soiling, high panel temperature, mismatch in series stringClean panel. Ensure all panels in a series string are identical model and have similar orientation/tilt.
Charge controller not recognizing PVPolarity reversed, voltage below controller startup threshold, blown fuseCheck and correct polarity. Ensure PV voltage is within controller input range. Check fuses.
Physical damage (cracks, delamination)Impact during transport/installation, thermal stressStop using panel. Contact Eco-Worthy support for assessment. Do not attempt to repair.
Water ingress in junction boxSeal failure, damaged glandDisconnect panel. Seal junction box properly with silicone sealant (IP65 rated) or contact support.
