Installation

Unpack and inspect all components. Choose a location with maximum sunlight exposure.

  1. Mount the Solar Panel: Use Z-brackets to securely attach the panel to a roof, pole, or ground frame. Ensure it faces south (Northern Hemisphere) at an optimal tilt angle.
  2. Connect Solar Panel to Controller: Use the provided MC4 cables. Connect PV+ to PV+ and PV- to PV- terminals on the controller.
  3. Connect Battery to Controller: Connect BAT+ to battery positive and BAT- to battery negative. Ensure battery voltage is above 9V for controller activation.
  4. Connect Load (Optional): Connect your 12V DC device to LOAD+ and LOAD- terminals on the controller.
  5. Secure all connections and protect cables from weather and physical damage.

WARNING! Install and connect battery BEFORE connecting the solar panel to avoid controller damage. Always observe correct polarity.

First-Time Setup

After installation, power on the system by exposing the solar panel to sunlight.

  1. Controller Initialization: The LCD will light up, showing battery voltage and charging status.
  2. Set Battery Type: Press the "MODE" button on the controller to cycle through battery types (Sealed, Gel, AGM, Li). Select the type matching your battery.
  3. Check Charging Status: Ensure the "Charging" icon is displayed on the LCD when the sun is out.
  4. Load Output Setting: Press and hold "MODE" for 3 seconds to enter load setting mode. Choose between "Manual On," "Manual Off," or "Auto" (dusk-to-dawn).

CAUTION! Do not disassemble the charge controller or solar panel. Keep the system away from flammable materials and ensure good ventilation.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

All controls are on the 30A PWM Charge Controller.

Buttons: MODE (short press to cycle battery type, long press for load settings).

LCD Display Icons: Battery level, Charging status (Bulk, Float, Equalize), PV voltage, Battery voltage, Charging current, Load status.

Battery Type Settings: SEALED (default), GEL, AGM, LI (Lithium).

Load Settings: 1. Manual On (load always on), 2. Manual Off (load always off), 3. Auto (load turns on at dusk, off at dawn based on light sensor).

Connecting to Battery & Load

Correct connection sequence is critical for safety and system longevity.

  1. Turn off all switches and disconnect any load.
  2. Connect Battery cables to controller BAT terminals first (RED to +, BLACK to -).
  3. Connect Solar Panel cables to controller PV terminals second (RED to +, BLACK to -).
  4. Connect Load cables to controller LOAD terminals last (RED to +, BLACK to -).
  5. Secure all connections and ensure no loose strands.

Tip: Use a fuse (30-40A) on the positive battery cable within 18 inches of the battery terminal for added protection.

Operation & Monitoring

The system operates automatically once set up. Monitor via the controller's LCD.

  1. Daily Check: Verify battery voltage is within normal range (12.6V-14.4V for 12V system).
  2. Charging Stages: Bulk (high current), Absorption (constant voltage), Float (maintenance). The controller manages these automatically.
  3. Using the Load Output: In "Auto" mode, the connected light will turn on automatically at night. In "Manual On," it stays on.
  4. Maximizing Output: Keep the panel clean and adjust its angle seasonally for best sun exposure.

WARNING! Do not connect AC appliances directly. This system outputs DC only. Use a power inverter for AC devices.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

CAUTION! Do not walk on the solar panel. Do not use abrasive cleaners or high-pressure water.

Regulatory Information

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
No display on controllerLow battery, loose connections, wrong polarityCheck battery voltage (>9V); verify correct and tight battery connections.
Not charging (0A current)Shaded panel, poor sunlight, faulty connectionEnsure panel is in full sun; check PV cable connections and MC4 connectors.
Load output not workingLoad setting, blown fuse, overloadCheck load setting (Manual On/Auto); check load fuse; reduce load if over 30A.
Low charging currentDirty panel, cloudy day, wrong panel angleClean panel; wait for sunny weather; adjust panel tilt towards the sun.
Controller error codeOver-temperature, short circuitLet controller cool down; disconnect and check for short circuits in wiring.

Reset: Disconnect battery and solar panel for 5 minutes, then reconnect battery first.
