Camera Overview

Familiarize yourself with the physical features of your Arlo Essential camera.

  1. Front: Camera lens, microphone, status LED, motion sensor, spotlight (on some models).
  2. Back: Speaker, Sync button, magnetic charging contacts, reset pinhole.
  3. Bottom:Battery compartment release latch.

NOTE: Handle the camera and lens with care to avoid damage.

Getting Started with the Arlo App

Download and set up the Arlo app to control your camera.

  1. Download the Arlo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Create an Arlo account or log in to an existing one.
  3. Follow the in-app prompts to add a new device.
  4. Select "Arlo Essential" from the list of devices.

TIP: Ensure your smartphone is connected to your home Wi-Fi network during setup.

Mounting Your Camera

Choose an optimal location for surveillance.

WARNING! Do not mount the camera in a way that invades a neighbor's privacy. Check local laws and regulations.

Powering Your Camera

Your camera can be powered by the rechargeable battery or connected to continuous power.

  1. Using the Battery: Insert the fully charged battery into the compartment until it clicks. The camera will power on.
  2. Using Continuous Power: Connect the power adapter to the camera's charging port and plug it into a wall outlet. The battery will charge while in use.

CAUTION! Use only the provided Arlo power adapter. Using an incorrect adapter may damage the camera.

Connecting to Wi-Fi & Syncing

Connect your camera to your home network and sync it with your account.

  1. In the Arlo app, tap "Add New Device" and follow the instructions.
  2. When prompted, press the Sync button on the camera for about 2 seconds. The status LED will blink blue.
  3. The app will search for your camera and guide you to connect it to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
  4. Name your camera (e.g., "Front Door") and complete the setup.

Tip: Place the camera within 3-10 feet of your router during the sync process for best results.

Basic Operation & Features

Learn how to use your camera's core functions via the Arlo app.

Live View: Tap the camera's thumbnail in the app to see a live stream.

Two-Way Audio: Press and hold the microphone icon in Live View to talk through the camera's speaker.

Motion Detection & Alerts: The camera automatically records short video clips when motion is detected and sends an alert to your phone.

Night Vision: Automatically activates in low light. Ensure the lens is clean for clear infrared images.

Spotlight (if equipped): Can be set to activate upon motion detection, illuminating the area in full color at night.

Customizing Settings

Tailor your camera's behavior in the Arlo app under Device Settings.

CAUTION! Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or water to clean the camera. Do not open the camera housing.

Troubleshooting
